Movies we like – The Seven Samurai

10 Oct

Have you seen “The Magnificent Seven”?  In our humble opinion, it’s a pale imitation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic, “The Seven Samurai.” Kurosawa had already  won fame outside Japan for “Rashomon” when he directed the Seven Samurai. Although we particularly like Takashi Shimura and Toshiro Mifune.  the entire cast give strong performances. After watching this film, we think that you’ll want to watch other films in Kurosawa’s oeuvre, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Throne of Blood, Ran, and the film upon which Star Wars is loosely based, “The Hidden Fortress.”
